MDD Student Travel Grants

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 21st 2016

The Mineral Deposits Division of the Geological Association of Canada will be partially supporting selected students to attend Whitehorse 2016. To be eligible for a travel grant, you must:

  • Submit an abstract to one of the following sessions: SS4, SS5, SS6, SS9, SS11, SS13, SS14, SS18, SS20. Please note that grants attributed within SS4 will have a special mention to the Jim Mortensen Memorial.
  • Present a poster or give a talk at one of the session highlighted above
  • Provide a short paragraph indicating your motivations to attend the conference (MAXIMUM 200 WORDS)
  • Submit your application to esther.bordet@gov.yk.ca. Please indicate in the object field your name and “MDD Student travel grant”.

Successful applicants will be notified by email.

In exchange of sponsorship, you will be asked to get involved with some small tasks during the conference. These could include preparation of session rooms including help with AV and furniture set-up, help with signage on campus, help moving equipment between session rooms, greeters in the main entrance, greeters at the airport, help uploading talks if the session chairs cannot be there to do so, help directing conference attendees during lunchtime, assistance with attendee registration…

  • Submit an abstract, and present a poster or give a talk during the conference
  • Provide a short paragraph indicating your motivations to attend the fieldtrip of your choice (MAXIMUM 200 WORDS)
  • Submit your application to esther.bordet@gov.yk.ca. Please indicate in the object field your name and “MDD fieldtrip support”.

CTG Student Grant

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 14th 2016

CTG will once again provide support to enable two students to attend the GAC-MAC Meeting (up to 600$). Priority will be given to a student or students who are presenting talks or posters, and who wish to attend either of the sponsored field trips. Students should contact the CTG Chair (godinl@queensu.ca), attaching a copy of a submitted abstract, together with a short cover letter including:

  1. A budget of the costs associated with attendance, including travel, and other
    sources of funding available;
  2. A statement indicating why you wish to attend the meeting and field trip, and how
    you expect to benefit from them;
  3. A transcript or transcripts of your academic record.

The following field trips will be sponsored by the CTG:

  • Tectonics of the Intermontane and Insular terranes, and development of Mesozoic synorogenic basins in southern Yukon; Carmacks to Kluane Lake (June 4 to June 6).
  • VMS and Orogenic Gold deposits of the Chatham Strait, southeast Alaska (June 4 to June 8).
