Getting to Whitehorse
The official airline of Whitehorse 2016 is Air North, Yukon’s Airline. Attendees and their guests can fly to Whitehorse from Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Yellowknife and Ottawa and receive a 10% discount on all regular fares (GoYukon, Saver or Optimum). The discount covers an extended travel period (May 18-June 18) to accommodate extra time before and/or after the conference. Quote reservation code “GACMAC16”. Not flying from any of those cities? Not a problem. Air North Yukon’s Airline can connect your bags from anywhere that Air Canada flies. To book a flight call 1-800-661-0407 or go to www.flyairnorth.com/?promocode=GACMAC16.
Conference venue & commuting
Yukon College, the site of GAC-MAC 2016, is not in downtown Whitehorse where most hotels are located. The conference will have free busing from two downtown pick-up and drop-off locations to the College. These buses will be running on ~15 minute intervals from 7:45-10 a.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. each morning and afternoon, as well as during the lunch break (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.). Taxis and the city bus system also provide easy access to the College from downtown.
Restaurants and grocery stores
If you have not purchased pre-paid lunches and/or tickets to the GAC, MAC and MDD Luncheons with your registration, please note that there are no food establishments on or near campus.
For delegates staying at the Gold Rush Inn, Edgewater Hotel or High Country Inn, bag lunches can be ordered the night before to bring with you to the college. Lunches consist of a sandwich, fruit, beverage and cookie, and the cost will be about $20 each (with taxes and gratuity). Please enquire at the front desk when you check in if you’d like to participate. Questions about the menu can be directed to email@example.com. Otherwise, there are chartered buses and regular city buses that will run between the college and downtown over the lunch period for you to get something there. Downtown Whitehorse holds a variety of restaurants, cafés, as well as two major grocery stores. Please see the map for details.
